I remember stormy weather
The way the sky looks when it's cold
And you were with me

Title: The last ray of hope – extingushed.

“How was it? Was it fun? Studying, was it fun?”

“No, it’s boring in fact.”

“Why? I was I could at least go out and study…”

Looking the atmosphere, Otoyashi Yunako quickly fished out the package and gave it to his sister. “Here!” His sister looked at it and smiled, “Thank you!”

Otoyashi’s heart warmed up and he smiled at his sister too. It was the only thing that could sustain him to live in this pitiful world, her smiles and her ‘thank-yous’.

Everyday, he would always do part-time jobs then goes to school. When going home, he would past by the comic shop and just pick any comic magazine for his sister. Maybe it was the same magazine, maybe it was different everytime and she could not keep out with the stories but his sister would take it all the same and say a thank you. His sister had a very serious illness that kept her on the bed for these past two years.

“Do you want to go out during Christmas?”

“REALLY? But would the doctor allow?”

“I would ask him. But even if he doesn’t allow, I would sneak in and bring you out.”

“Promise?” His sister held her pinky up.

“Promise.” Otoyashi hooked his pinky with hers.

With this promise, he had more part-time jobs. He worked and worked and went home only to sleep. Soon, Christmas reached. The only bad thing was that his sister’s illness was deteriorating. Of course the doctor refused to let her out. Otoyashi crept into the her room after visiting hours and brought her out. He carried her on his back.

“WOW! I didn’t know that the main street would be so beautiful! If not for you, I would not see this beautiful sight!”

“Tha-Thank you… Big brother.”

“Don’t mention it! Now after this, we shall go to the café right at the end. I heard that they had the nicest cakes! Don’t worry about the money, I saved quite a sum for this too! So after that, we shall buy presents…” And so, he walked and talked all the way, alone…

The most important thing in his life was gone now. Without her smiles and her thank yous…

He was walking on the street after he had finished his part-time job. He saw a young girl saying thank you to a doctor and he decided to do what he needs to do.

He studied frantically and finally, he gotten a pass to the university. He was on the train holding onto the pass. The entrance exam… Suddenly, the train came into a abrupt stop. He lost his pass. And everything was blacked-out.

Day One.

He woke up and found people everywhere injured. He reached to helped them, after all he was a student of the medical science. He had missed the entrance exam.

Day Two.

He found 6 bottles of mineral water and 3 packets of packed rice. Enough to support for all the people that had survived for only three days. He found a good friend called Tashigi.

Day Three.

A man tried to steal all the water and wanted to get away. He was stopped, however some water was spilled. Survivors were yelling for his punishment but Otoyashi said, “That water spilled would be my share.” “And I would be sharing my share with you,”assured Tashigi.

Day Four.

Otoyashi found a torchlight and went to find if there was a way out. Both sides of the tunnel was blocked. They had to wait for help. Water and food were scarce.

Day Five.

Day Six.

Day Seven.

All the survivors were dying. Few had already died and Otoyashi could do nothing to help. He was so tired. He was injured. Yet, he did not treat himself. He used the the bandages on the other survivors. He took out a small piece of paper: Donation of organs. He filled in his name as the donor and circled every organ. “Every-everyone, at least, do something. Even if you were to die… At least…”whispered Tashigi. All the survivors filled in and circled everything. This was their love for the world. Hope was running low. Otoyashi’s hand dropped to the ground, his eyes still opened.

“HEY! ANYONE IN THERE?” Help had come. At last.

“Otoyashi? Hey Otoyashi? Otoyashi. Help has come. Otoyashi?” Tagashi called out.

“Doctor?” the survivors all whispered.

“OTOYASHI!”
